UV unwrapped map(C4D)

> Iteration week1

Based on the idea of ‘unwrapping’, I unwrapped more than 100 3d objects which were downloaded more than 10,000 times(free sources) in Cinema 4D using the ‘UV mapping’ function. Then I printed it on the 1:1 square-sized paper and did the binding with a clip.

The enquiries I got during the process were:

  1. Generally, it’s damaged when the objects(or papers) were folded and unwrapped, but the digital map of unwrapping is not damaged at all.
  2. Every time I was unwrapping each object, I needed to press the button ‘Optimize(Optimal)’ but the shape of the unwrapped objects seems like it was not optimized. It seems more complicated.
  3. The objects in real life have their backside. However, since the unwrapping function in the 3d program is basically for making textures of the objects, we need to make a map of backside of the object if we want to get them.

Feedback:

  • Because of the form of publication(the name of the objects are written below the images & bonded on top), viewers flip the page from bottom to top. Also, because of this process, viewers read the names of the objects and then see the images, and finally recognize them.
  • All the objects have different sizes but in this publication map, they lost their scale.
  • If I continue to focus on the idea of ‘unwrapping’, then it’ll be important to think about what am I going to unwrap.
  • This map is taking a closer observation of the object and investigating familiar objects.
