For the second iteration process, I decided to bring the ‘unwrapping’ concept into real life and give them materiality. Among several ways to unwrap the objects, I decided to frottage the daily objects. Fundamentally, it’s not ‘unwrapping’ the objects. However, ‘UV unwrapping’ function that I used in the previous stage was more like peeling out the surface of the objects and I thought doing frottage is similar to this process.
Even though I’m not literally ‘folding’ or ‘unfolding’ the objects, my second Map of Unwrapping also has materiality and damage throughout the process. I was ‘unwrapping’ the object, but at the same time, I was rubbing and scratching the paper as an act of ‘unwrapping’.
>Feedback:
- How about bringing this texture(frottaged texture) back to the 3d objects?
- What do these 2 different sets of iterations(week 1 & 2) suggest about different positions on surface and object?
- The difference between human frottage practice and computer programs?
- Partial view in the 2nd set – limits set by the scale of the paper and the materials
- Mapping of the room with these frottaged images(textures)
- text and image working effectively – offering a moment of surprise
- Context of unwrapping and the concept of ‘surfaces’ seems could be a lot of directions and possibilities
