Following the feedback on the last tutorial, I traced more people to make lots of cases. However, with another feedback that since the movement of people in the train is really mimicked on the gif, It looks like I’ve made gif files using wiggle effect on the After Effect program. So I tried to more focus on the part of the body.
I traced part of the bodies of people on the train. Since movements are restricted on the train, most of the shapes I traced were heads, hands/arms, and legs/feet.
While I was tracing the movements, I had to watch the video of people(which I took by myself) several times and had found that people on the train were gazing or observing each other. And also they did similar movements because of the character of the train as a place. So I thought people on the train are forming an invisible relationships and communities even they could not realize.
Then I gathered all the traced shapes together. Based on the shape of the person sitting on the train, I stacked up shapes of the body on each related body part. For example, I stacked up the shape of a boy(who touched his leg at first and then took his hand off his leg later)’s body part both on arm and leg of based person so that It can show the intersection between the body which shows same/similar movement.
This is also connected to the first notion of the Venn Diagram since the Venn Diagram does not necessarily have to take the shape of a circle or square. The point of the Venn Diagram is that line forming the diagram should be started at one point and ends at the same point. For these reasons, I thought that these stacked moving images can be seen as a new shape, type, or suggestion of the Venn Diagram since this output also expresses similarities and relationships between the movement and people.
Feedback :
> What’s working :
. The unspoken relationship between the passengers on the train is interesing and showed on the output.
. Since the Venn Diagram is a diagram that focuses on similarities with intersections, the idea that this output can be a new type of Venn Diagram makes sense.
> What’s not working :
. Since the first idea about ‘Movement and Non-movement between the moving train and static residential building’ at the 2nd tutorial class was interesting, it would be good to see the output of this concept. The expression of movement in the static space was also curious.
. The previous rotoscoping with a black outline showed the small movement of the passengers well. However, focusing on the part of the body removed those mimic movements(relatively non-movement) which could be compared with the bid movement of the train.
> To develop this further / in future projects :
. Add the colors on the image to show the movements and intersection more clear
. Add more movements of the people to see how it looks like if it has a large amount of cases and intersections.
